Scam Communications

Phone calls, letters, emails and text messages from scammers/ fraudsters can seem legitimate and convincing so it is important to be vigilant and when it comes to unusual or unexpected communications.

 

Genuine emails from Howse Williams only use the domain of “@howsewilliams.com”. 

 

We do not use WhatsApp’s click to chat feature or any similar instant messaging system on our website.

 

If you receive any communication purporting to be from Howse Williams, any of our partners or employees or refer to Howse Williams about which you are uncertain or suspicious, please do not respond and do not provide personal or confidential information. 

 

You can check whether a communication is genuine by telephoning your usual Howse Williams contact before taking any action or forwarding any suspicious communication to [email protected] and we will investigate it.

 

We report scam attempts to the relevant regulatory authorities where appropriate.   Further information can be found on the Hong Kong Law Society Scam Alert page. 

 

We set out below details of specific scam attempts that we have been made aware of and which have been reported to the Police and the Hong Kong Law Society. This list is not exhaustive.

 

 

December 2024:  Scam website purporting to belong to Howse Williams 何韋律師行

 

Our attention has been drawn to the existence of a scam website ‘https://hewei-lawyer.com/index.html’ purporting to belong to “Howse Williams 何韋律師行”.

 

The website ‘https://hewei-lawyer.com/index.html’ as well as the use of “Howse Williams 何韋律師行”, our logo, and our partners’ names and photos are unauthorised by our firm, or any of our partners including Mr. Chan Ka Chun陳嘉駿 (“Mr. Chan”) and Mr. Chow Wing Fu周榮富 (“Mr. Chow”).  The phone numbers +852 7084 1244 and +852 9094 3258 do not belong to Mr. Chan, Mr. Chow or any of our partners.

 

 

November 2024:  Scam website purporting to belong to Howse Williams 何韋律師行

 

We have been made aware of a scam website ‘https://lawyer-lservice.com/index.html’ purporting to belong to “Howse Williams 何韋律師行”.

 

This fake website displays our logo, office address and the photos of four of our lawyers namely:

 

  • 余國堅 Mr. Yu Kwok Kin, a solicitor registered with The Law Society of Hong Kong and a partner of our firm;

  • 周榮富 Mr. Chow Wing Fu, a solicitor registered with The Law Society of Hong Kong and a partner of our firm;

  • 陳嘉駿 Mr. Chan Ka Chun, a solicitor registered with The Law Society of Hong Kong and a partner of our firm;

  • 黃偉強 Mr. Wong Wai Keung, a solicitor registered with The Law Society of Hong Kong and a partner of our firm;

 

The website ‘https://lawyer-lservice.com/index.html’ as well as the use of “Howse Williams 何韋律師行”, our logo, and our partners’ names and photos are unauthorised by our firm, or any of our partners.

 

 

June 2024:  Fake LinkedIn profile of a person purporting to be a partner of Howse Williams

 

We have been made aware of a fake LinkedIn account created under the name of “Angela Pun” falsely claiming to be a partner of Howse Williams and referring to “Ho & Wai Solicitors”. 

 

We have never employed anyone by the name of “Angela Pun” and we have no relationship with any entity by the name of “Ho & Wai Solicitors”.

 

 

July 2023:  Scam involving the misuse of Howse Williams' name

 

We have been made aware of scam emails using the domain “@howsewiliams.com” (with one “l” in the domain name instead of two). 

 

Howse Williams does not have any involvement with emails or messages from this domain.  Genuine emails from Howse Williams only use the domain “@howsewilliams.com”.
